This Olympic sportswear collection was designed for the U.K. Team at Seoul Olympics of 1988. The entire group of garments was directed by Associate Director Victor Stapelberg of The Conran Design Group of London. The concept of this line was based on practicality of movement for athletes without neglecting the human body inside each suit.

The 1980s saw the professionalisation of many Olympic sports. It was also an era of innovation in sportswear design. The Olympic Collection blazed a trail for Aerodynamic Sportswear, along with other product lines of the period, such as the Florence Griffith Joyner Collection. This was a highly technical garment line, but the artist illustrator retained a natural emphasis on the human factor of the wearer by using charcoal as a natural media on very rough paper such as the brown wrapping paper used to cover mail packages.

This collection was specifically designed for our client The Edelweiss Compass Group in Austria as a private label product. It has enjoyed excellent response as a commercial product due to its simple approach and application of the mountaineering trend.

We have applied to these items the technicality of high end mountaineering jackets without taking away the appeal to a general mass market. It is a group of garments that would adequately serve anyone at heights accessible to the general public without the assistance of experienced mountain climbers.

In designing this product, our extensive research into mountaineering resulted in a quality product that can readily accommodate the abrupt changes in climate common on mountain heights. It has welded seams, water proof pocket finishings, and spare pockets (always in great demand) strategically positioned and easily accessable through cleverly hidden paths.
